Once known as a “bling” brand clothes label Tommy Hilfiger has sold out to join Calvin Klein at Phillips Van-Heusen after 4 years ownership by Apax partners.
The brand’s eponymous founder will stay on as “principal designer and visionary” . “Calvin and Tommy are global iconic mega-brands” and since Apax worked wonders relaunching the company it may deserve the €0.7 billion it is reported to have made on the deal.
That is one heck of an uplift in brand value even discounting product investment along the way.

Performers rights advice from the Rockgrass group Hayseed Dixie ‘…….. For investigators who have access to the technology, Hayseed Dixie encourages audio and video recording at live shows, and the trading and sharing of these recordings afterwards. The ONLY stipulation is that said recordings absolutely may not be used for commercial gain – just don’t sell them, folks. That ain’t cool and may result in an East Tennessee Ass-Whooping should the band find out about it (and they will)…..’
Whooping must be viral like the cough.

Manchester United may face litigation for unpaid tax on ‘image rights’ paid to footballers as part of remuneration according to their fund raising prospectus.
Sol Cambell has issued a writ claiming his £30,000 per week was not paid by Portsmouth FC, in line with his contract, to his personal Swiss trust.
In France a high court corruption action is pending which will involve the abuse of image rights payments.
Pushing tax planning to the evasion level is an Intellectual Liability not an IA. Reputation should mean more than dickering about to save paying fair taxation.

What is the world’s most important brand?
I hope you think it is Yourself.
‘As a professional, your reputation is your most valuable career asset. Your credibility, visibility, personality, and personal style all make up your brand.’ So says the blurb in Career Distinction: Stand Out by Building Your Brand by William Arruda and Kirsten Dixson
If your professional qualifications and training are your Intellectual Property then what makes up your IA. This book suggests it is your ‘Career Karma’, your personal network, CV, in fact your personal take on The Top 10 Intellectual Assets we keep referring to.
Beware your Personal Brand is what others see and think, not what you believe to be true. You must work on these perceptions on and offline. You are developing your brand all the time.

Even after life, personal brands can continue earning for film stars like Marilyn Munroe and Steve McQueen. ‘Delebs’ is is the name the royalty industry give to these dead celebrities.
Whilst authors like Micheal Crichton, Dr Seuss Geisel and J R R Tolkien feature in the top ten earners for last year it was Yves Saint Laurent who came out on top. According to Forbes it was the sale of his personal possessions that got him to the top of this years list with £214m. Michael Jackson was in third place beating Elvis Presley by one slot but I hear Elvis will make a comeback next year.
