Is David Davis On Brand

Has David Davis (DD) gone off ‘Tory’ message by fighting a by-election at Haltemprice and Howden. There are no recent press releases since the resignation speech on the Conservative web site about the matters of principal that DD wanted to raise. The media support has been wishy-washy and it looks like DD has not hit the right buttons.

Carpe Diem is not an appropriate moto for DD’s own personal brand but amongst a slew of weak ‘me-too politicos’ he may still come out of this election with an enhanced reputation and an intact personal brand. At least he has put Haltemprice and Howden on the map but I bet David Cammeron is not planning his next holiday there.

Michael Martins action led to DD failuring to make his resignation speech in the House of Commons. Then to cap it all Labour have failed to field a candidate. So it could be said that Labour were ‘on brand’ if that brand is to stifle civil liberties, personal freedom and debate there on.
